Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Red Magic Review

Earlier this year we have reviewed the titanium ceramic version which manages to be bold but somehow classic in its color schemes.

At Watches and Wonders 2022, the first held face to face after the pandemic, Hublot released several novelties including the Hublot Spirit of Big Bang “Red Magic” Ref. 642.CF.0113.RX.

This version in the patented “Red Magic” ceramic is the fusion between rubber and ceramic. It is a limited edition of 250 pieces.

The Spirit of Big Bang is unapologetically bold and very red!

The strap is a matching red and black but this new version of the Spirit of Big Bang includes the quick-change strap system of Hublot which is very simple and convenient.

With a Magic Red ceramic case (as opposed to the titanium grey) not every strap would fit but the black alligator with red stiches would fit perfectly and so the red rubber with white accents.

The Spirit of Big Bang Red Magic has the 42mm case which feels bold but appropriate (the 45mm Spirit of Big Bang models are truly gigantic).

Due to the color and thickness(around 14.5 mm) this is certainly not a discreet watch but certainly unique.

Like the other Spirit of Big Bang it is powered by the Hublot HUB4700 movement, which is essentially a skeletonised Zenith “El Primero” chronograph produced in collaboration between Hublot and Zenith, both parts of the LVMH group. It beats at a frequency of 5Hz, 36,000 beats per hour, 278 components and a power reserve of 50 hours.

The movement is of the best ever produced (even used by the older Rolex Daytona models) and the successor by Hublot is even more appealing due to the skeletonised open work.

The Red Magic shade is superb and is difficult to capture in photos. Here you see compared to the red of the Swiss flag and passport. Close enough ?

In conclusion the Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Red Magic is bold, daring and very red. It is not a watch that will remain unoticed but perhaps a suitable choice for a modern CEO.
