Omega Speedmaster Silver Snoopy Award

The "Silver Snoopy Award" was launched by Omega in 2015 to celebrate the  45th anniversary of the Apollo 13 mission. In 1970, OMEGA received the prestigious “Silver Snoopy Award” from the astronauts at NASA. The prize recognised OMEGA’s unique contributions to space exploration, as well as the Speedmaster’s role in saving Apollo 13.

you might be wondering what snoopy has to do with space exploration "Snoopy was chosen as NASA’s mascot in the 1960s, to act as a safety watchdog during space flight missions."

This model, like pretty much all Snoopy themed Speedmasters, has been extremely popular and all 1970 pieces were sold-out very quickly. The current version, celebrating the 50th Anniversary, is not limited but also fairly difficult to get.

The casebackis decorated with a Snoopy in solid silver and enamel. As the silver snoopy, the blue enamel and stars were applied by hand, each watch is different.

Another unique feature of this watch is that the superluminova is applied both on the ceramic bezel but also on the dial including the snoopy.

The 14 seconds referenced in the dial refers to the rocket burst that was timed with the omega speedmaster to ensure successful re-enty of the shuttle.

This watch has a casual look and feel that makes it perfect for pretty much every occasion (beside swimming althrough it does feature a 50 Meters water resistance).

the black nylon fabric strap contributes to the casual character of the watch. Like other speedmasters it is powered by the Caliber 1861, the famous manual-winding chronograph movement that was worn on the Moon. It has a power reserve of 48 hours.

In conclusion the Omega Speedmaster Silver Snoopy Award is rightly among the most beloved Omega Speedmasters due to the endearing snoopy on its dial and the unusual design.
